Dear Valued Shred de Sugar Sponsor,
On September 13-15, 2024, the Suzannah Smiles Foundation will be hosting the Shred de Sugar Cycling Festival (SdS) at Brazos River Park (BRP) in Sugarland, Texas. This event is a three-day cycling festival including two days of mountain bike racing and one of cyclocross. The weekend is for all ages and skill levels and the Sunday MTB race is part of the Texas Cup Series for the Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association (TMBRA).
Shred de Sugar continues to grow as a premier cycling event in Texas and has shown fantastic growth over the last 5 years. In 2023, SdS raised over $20,000 to help Texas children and families impacted by spina bifida. All proceeds of the event are donated directly to families impacted by spina bifida through scholarships and grants as well as monies given to Spina Bifida Texas (SBTX). With your help, SdS allow us to serve more families across Texas.
About Suzannah Smiles: Suzannah Smiles is a 501(c)3 whose mission is to support the spina bifida community in Texas. Our goal is to spread awareness as well as raise funds to support programs for those affected by spina bifida. 100% of the proceeds of both our events go to programs that can empower them to live a barrier-free life and reach their fullest potential.
About spina bifida: It is estimated that spina bifida affects 2 out of every 1,000 births in Texas, nearly twice the national average. Spina bifida is a birth defect that occurs when the lower end of the spinal cord does not form properly in the developing baby. Paralysis, loss of bowel and/or bladder control, brain damage, and learning disabilities are among the many issues associated with this complex disability. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), if every woman of childbearing age (15-44) would take a daily vitamin containing 400mcg of folic acid, the incidences of spina bifida would be reduced by 70%.
About TMBRA and Shred de Sugar (SdS): The Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association was formed in 1996 to bring added continuity and professionalism to MTB racing across Texas. Today, the TMBRA calendar has races across the state of Texas. All TMBRA races feature USA Cycling recognized classes and categories, as well as an active Junior program and the groundbreaking “Kids Cup” program. Shred de Sugar is held at Brazos River Park just southwest of Houston, TX, and is race three of five in the fall TMBRA series, the Texas Cup. Shred de Sugar has the strongest participation of any of the Texas Cup races and has traditionally been one of the top three races in participants across all races in Texas for the last several years. We expect over 750 participants with over 2000 people in attendance for the three days of racing. Information can be found at: https://www.suzannahsmiles.org/ or by contacting Tommy Smith, Event Coordinator (281) 408-5858, email tommy@suzannahsmiles.org.
Our goal for 2024 is to raise $35,000. Please consider supporting our effort to assist Texas families living with spina bifida by sponsoring, volunteering, and/or participating in the event.
Please be advised that all donations/sponsorships must be paid in full by September 1st to guarantee your company logo placement on the event jersey, banners, and signage for the event. A signed commitment form is required from all our sponsors prior to logos being added to event signage.
